The source for this project is the Arquivo Regional da Madeira. They abstracted the christening and marriage records in their possession and created databases. These databases have been instrumental in my own research however they have some limitations. Searches without accents returned zero results. It is impossible to sort by the date in the christening database in a meaningful way. There is no linking of the two databases together.
The project was conceptualized in September of 2010 with the following goals:
• Allow for searching across databases
• Allow sorting to find closer matches
The names in the Arquivo Regional da Madeira's databases were orthographically corrected and normalized. The search function of this website takes that into consideration. You may search with or without accent marks. Duplicate records were removed from the marriage database.
